She has experience as a field research scientist, government official, and director for corporate and nonprofit organizations, including the Aspen Institute, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, and many others. Formerly chief scientist of NOAA, Earle is the founder of Mission Blue and SEAlliance, and chair of the Advisory Council of the Ocean in Google Earth. She has a PhD. from Duke University and 22 honorary degrees. She has authored more than 190 scientific, technical, and popular publications; lectured in more than 80 countries; and appeared in hundreds of radio and television productions.

I love this book. It is great for the coffee table and to share with others about the Ocean and its importance. As a scuba diver, I just love flipping through the pages and looking at the outstanding photography. But, the articles are also very informative and useful. Highly recommend if this is something you are interested in learning about, or just having a piece in your place to display your love of the ocean!

A very impressive documentary presented by an expert and very honest scientist. However, even when it offers a glimpse of hope for the oceans to recover, it is sad to watch how our oceans have been ravaged by pollution and marine species depleted to the brink of extinction by titanic size fish factories boats that when watched at night from space by NASA satellites, looked like floating cities just 200 miles away from any coast around the world.

After meeting Silvia at an event and learning about her passion, I HAD to have this book. It is beautifully written, with colorful pages. Beyind reading it, it will make an excellent conversation piece for my coffee table. Highly recommend.

Earle is an internationally recognized expert in the marine environment and when people at the contest saw the book, the competition to win a copy of this book became very serious! The pictures are gorgeous (true National Geographic quality) and the message a very important one for the life and health of all on our planet. Highly recommend this book.

This book might have been excellent but the printing quality of the photographs is simply not good enough.Its content is excellent and the original photographs were no doubt stunning and thought provoking, However, a book that leans on its photographs should be printed well...And that is where something went wrong (or perhaps the technology selected for the physical creation of the book was simply not good enough to do justice to the photographs).

A beautiful book that we should all read to understand that caring for our oceans means caring for our human race, and our coexistence with earth's precious wildlife and natural environment. Earth is a treasure we need to save for our sake.

The photos in this book are stunning and amazing. Sylvia Earle is an experienced marine researcher with numerous accolades and decades of marine research to her credit. The message behind this book is ever more critical in today's climate with warming oceans, coral bleaching and pollution. Would highly recommend this book to any marine lover.
