This book goes into the gory details for each bit of Quicken, but not really how to use Quicken, not how to quickly create accounts that data can be imported to. It lacks any quick reference how-to instructions. Creating accounts is a trial and error endeavor. The book doesn't present the simple steps to accomplish creating savings/spending accounts so that data is correctly imported. It forces a user to create automatically updated accounts but not one account was populated correctly. I have had to delete all accounts and recreate them, some 3 times.Creating investment accounts is an even more complex and frustrating waste of time. It cannot group fund transaction under each fund. You get a mish-mash of all the transactions in one list, not under the related fund. This book is not recommended for self training and I'm not sure it would be useful in an instructor led formal training class. Hopefully I can return the book.

I have been a Micrsoft Money user for a lot of years. I switched this year because Money is no longer supported. I have been impressed with the way it's working so far. I especially like the reports. I keep track of my personal finances and also a small non profit. I would recomend this software. Took a while to get used to the interface, [used to the way Money worked] but well worth the time. This guide was super in helping me get around in the program.

I had never used Quicken before so needed a grounding in the basics. That's why I bought this manual and proceeded to read it through, skipping the parts covering features that I would not be using. I had used MS Money previously and this manual had a helpful section for such users. I have used Quicken for almost two years now and often refer to the manual. One of my few complaints about it is the index is not always as useful as I would like. Several times I have tried to look for items under what seemed to me to be appropriate headings but couldn't find any listed.

Good enough for someone new to Quicken in that it shows (with both screen shots and directions) how to set-up and record transactions in Quicken. However, I felt if fell short in the following areas:- Covering the overall philosophy behind Do-It-Yourself financial management.- Didn't critique short-comings in the Quicken product (But that could be expected from "The Official Guide").- How to use the product to address other assets (e.g. insurance policies, family loans, freq. flyer miles, etc.- Didn't cover nearly adequately enough (again, beyond mechanics) of the: - Planning, Investing (esp. Investments.quicken.com), Property & Debt in the basic product. - Business and Rental Property for the direct add-ons. - Home Inventory, ItsDeductible, Medical Tracker, and even TurboTax for associated products.All of the criticism said, I will still reference it when I wonder if / how I can do something; especially since I now have the Kindle edition (the prior one I had was from 2008 and in book form).

This book,"Quicken 2012 The Official Guide", has proven to be extrememly helpful in keeping track of our financial responsibilities. We bought it and also bought "Quicken 2012 Quick Steps", a simpler guide that works well with the more detailed, larger volume. Between these two all of our questions have been answered.

This is probably the best, PC-application, guide book that I've ever purchased. It is well organized, well written and most complete.However, it is printed on "cheap" paper that easily allows highlighting to "bleed through" and make a mess on a page's reverse side. And, since it is a guide book, I want to highlight key points.I'd be glad to "cover the cost" of quality paper!

We have an older version of Quicken that we use periodically and needed an inexpensive resource. This was perfect.

This was my own fault for not researching enough but this book does NOT contain info on Quicken Business (which I needed). A waste of money for me since Quicken is super easy to use at the Personal version.So if you are looking for Personal and have never worked with Quicken before, this is an OK book (although you can find all you want online for free) but if you wanted to understand Quicken Business, this one is ***NOT*** for you.I take it back. I just re-looked and when you search for "Quicken Business" in the books section, this is the book it recommends. So it is not my own fault, it is Amazon's fault. So Amazon made me waster money, not my lack of research.
